"Discovery: The Apollo 8 astronauts beheld this sight as they rounded the far side of the moon in their first lunar orbit. The earth is 240,000 miles away, with north at the right. The sunset terminator, separating day and the shadow of night, bisects Africa. The visible area of the moon's surface in this photo measures about 110 miles across."
